A ‘mildmannered man in a suit’ was how Bong Joonho’s script originally described the bureaucrat quelling an uprising in Snowpiercer, a postapocalyptic thriller set on a train. Swinton delighted in transforming the role into a sadistic monster, complete with dentures and furs.
