Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is spearheading a project to establish a direct electricity connection from the National Grid to Penang Island to ensure stable power supply

The project involves an 8.5km monopole transmission tower, connecting the Perai Power Station (SJ) Main Inlet Substation (PMU) to The Light PMU in Penang

It runs parallel to the Penang Bridge


This marks the fourth line connecting the National Grid to Penang, following previous submarine cables commissioned in 1978, 1989 and 1995


The monopole transmission method is chosen for its sustainability, balancing costeffectiveness, safety, efficiency, and supply stability

It ensures rapid detection of any damage or disruption, enhancing overall reliability
