Through the 2000s, the Tony Hawk video game series was a sales juggernaut for Activision, being a fun arcade experience that anyone could pick up and play with ease and a gateway into the world of skateboarding and skate culture for a generation. While many would consider one of the Pro Skater titles to be the peak of the series, I always saw the first Underground title as the zenith of what these games could be. But these days, the franchise is falling into disuse, and as the years go by gaming culture may ultimately lose one of the greatest pillars of the medium's popularity in the early21st century, just as we all lose aspects of our lives to the ravages of time.
