Join me and my wheelchair on another Outer Hebridean adventure – this time in the isle of Lewis and Harris. It was such a stunning trip with plenty of things to see and do, these are just my top six (it was supposed to be a top five but I couldn’t miss the third one, the hidden gem!)
The highlands and islands of Scotland definitely aren’t the most wheelchair friendly places, but that doesn’t need to be a barrier to your travel. I hope these six tips give you plenty of accessible inspiration for your next trip!

No.4 Bosta Beach, Great Bernera https://w3w.co/spite.hedgehog.shunts this takes you to the parking spot by the cemetery, there’s an accessible toilet in the main carpark

No.3 Carloway https://w3w.co/swimsuits.inviting.gou... that’s where we parked the car, just be careful not to obstruct any gates. There was an accessible toilet at the end of the walk in the harbour bit that was open, but it has a keypad on it so presume sometimes it’s not. Either way, don’t rely on it because I’d feel guilty if you did!

No.1 Calanais (Callanish) Standing Stones https://w3w.co/risk.removes.overheard this is the spot we parked in, but don’t forget to head along to the visitor centre and café (with accessible toilet) to make the most of your experience.
