Have you ever heard of plein air painting events or competitions? I did my first one ever at the Auburn Strokes painting event in Auburn Nebraska. A plein air painting event is essentially a week long painting marathon where you can do urban sketching and plein air painting around a specific area or location. The term “competition” is used loosely here because while there are prizes and often the paintings are judged, (this even was judged by the fantastic artist and person @deborahjoygroesser) I found that while each artist is hopeful to win a prize, there’s a spirit of camaraderie and that the main thing is to focus on the experience itself. I’ll tell you my story of my first time and give some tips I discovered along the way.
