Khan Academy India - English

A currentcarrying coil kept in a magnetic field experiences a torque, which is the cross product of the magnetic moment and the field vector. Hence, the torque is maximum when the dipole moment is perpendicular to the field, and zero when it's parallel or antiparallel to the field.
When the dipole moment is parallel to the field, the dipole is in stable equilibrium. When it's antiparallel, it's in an unstable equilibrium state.
