They tamed the impenetrable mountains of the Sierra Madre Oriental and the dense jungles of the Gulf of Mexico coast. The Totonacs are the original people of Veracruz and northern Puebla, where they formed an empire called the Totonacapan.

We visited the Tajín Indigenous Arts Center in Papantla where we learned from our grandparents the ancestral practices of the Totonac culture.
