Hurricane Beryl has officially formed in the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the firstnamed hurricane of the season, according to the National Hurricane Center

In its latest advisory, the National Hurricane Center said the hurricane is expected to bring lifethreatening winds and storm surge to the Windward Islands.

"Forecast to bring lifethreatening winds and storm surge to the Windward Islands as an extremely dangerous hurricane," NHC forecasters said.
