On May 7th, 2021, I recorded a large police response for a shooting just south of downtown Seattle.

Just after 5pm, witnesses reported a man on a scooter firing a gun near 10th and Jackson. Seattle Police and King County Sheriff units responded and found a 58yearold man with a gunshot wound to the hand. The suspect fled to a large, multistory building under construction.

Guardian 1, the King County Sheriff helicopter, responded to assist with the subject search. SPD SWAT units were also deployed. Guardian 1 located the suspect in the building, and SWAT units made entry.

SWAT made contact with the suspect around 7:40 pm. The suspect was initially unresponsive, but after SWAT deployed a flashbang the suspect began to follow commands and was taken into custody.

I was lucky with this one: I happened to be listening to the police scanner, so I heard about the call right away. And, more importantly, the traffic cameras near the scene were actually working and pointing the right way!
