A very good afternoon spent at Ely on the Fen Line where we see plenty of services from Great Northern, East Midlands Railway, Cross Country, Greater Anglia and plenty of freight from GBRF.

The station was built and opened in 1845 by the Eastern Counties Railway at a cost of £81,500 back then. I dread to think how much it would be if that were built today, especially because of the geography of the terrain that the line is built on. The station was always busy because from its outset its always been used as a junction station linking Cambridge, Peterborough and the surrounding areas to London.

There isn't to much to tell about this station other than during the 1990's British Rail modified the station quite substantially in order for electrification to take place, although not every line coming out of Ely is electrified today.

My next station will be Grantham on the East Coast Mainline.
