East Anglian Trainspotting

After travelling up on the 'Highland Chieftain' from London, I planned to do a full days spotting at Inverness before returning home on Monday which would be on the last ever HST to London.

I planned to spend the entirety of Sunday 8th at Inverness station to capture as many trains as possible. Of course with it being a Sunday, the frequency of services is greatly reduced however that didn't affect the variety of what I saw. My day started with the first service of the day which was the 09:40 LNER service to London King's Cross which would be the penultimate HST to London. My day spotting would eventually end with the last ever northbound HST arriving from London which would form the last ever southbound HST the next morning. In between these times, I saw quite a few Scotrail services most of them run by a DMU but I was really glad to see some new Scotrail HST's in their Inter7city livery. There were some 158's running on the Far North Line and the 170's were all on services to Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Another service I saw was the southbound Caledonian Sleeper to London Euston consisting of two Class 73's and a rake of new MK5 coaches.

Overall, even with it being a Sunday, it was a great day spotting and I would highly recommend spotting at Inverness. You should note that you should ask the staff at the station to spot.

Class 43's
Class 170's
