Treatment of High Risk HPV of The Cervix

Follow
Dr. Kathy At Your Cervix

This video discusses 4 points about the treatment of highrisk HPV.
.
Point Number 1
Highrisk HPV can cause cervical cancer….but I want you treated before your HPV infection turns into cervical cancer,
Point number 2
Treatment for infection with highrisk HPV
that causes mild dysplasia aka lowgrade dysplasia, (or CIN 1 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia)
The majority of the abnormal, or infected cells will return to being normal without treatment so the preferred management is to followup with repeat Pap smears to make sure the dysplasia goes away on its own.
Point number 3
Treatment of moderate to highgrade cervical dysplasia of the cervix,
The concern is that if highrisk cervical dysplasia is not treated,
it has a higher chance to go on to become cancer.
There are 2 main types of treatment for moderate to severe cervical dysplasia, ablative or excisional therapy. I discuss the different types of ablative and excisional therapy and associated risks. The therapy of choice is excisional.
And point 4, if you have had these procedures done and you still have HPV lesion. How is that treated? With medicine. Hysterectomy is not the standard of care for cervical dysplasia. But if you have had a hysterectomy for cervical dysplasia you still need to get pap smears done.
