The Trek Marlin+ 8 is one of the more affordable eMTBs we’ve tested. Thanks to a Bosch Active Line Plus motor, the Marlin+ 8 rides like a more expensive eMTB. The Active Line Plus motor produces 250W nominally, peaks at 600W and offers 50Nm of torque.

The Trek Marlin+ 8 is spec’d with the sorts of parts you’d expect to see on a pricier eMTB. It comes with 4piston Shimano hydraulic disc brakes with 203mm rotors as well as a 12speed Shimano Deore drivetrain.

Because mountain biking is a dynamic activity that forces the rider to move around a lot, a good fit is important and Trek makes the Marlin+ 8 in five sizes to fit most people.

The Rock Shox suspension fork gives riders 120mm of bumpabsorbing travel—enough for real offroad riding. And to make descending as much fun as climbing, they spec’d a TransX dropper post.

In all, it’s an efficient ebike with great handling and comes at an impressive price point considering how good the components are
