NDP MP Blake Desjarlais said during question period on Monday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “came back emptyhanded” after his meeting with U.S. presidentelect Donald Trump last weekend.
Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc — who travelled with Trudeau for the meeting — said it was a “productive discussion” with Trump and that the Canadian leader came back “far from emptyhanded.”
Meanwhile, Conservative Deputy Leader Melissa Lantsman said that Canada was “staring down the barrel” at 25 per cent tariffs and that a ‘Canada First’ plan was needed to fix the “broken borders” between the neighbouring countries.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller also accused Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre of sitting in his basement “figuring out what rhyme to put up on Twitter” during Trudeau’s meeting with Trump, and characterized Poilievre as not being "serious."
