TRY THIS When you're ready for an emotional breakthrough | The Scribble Projective

Follow
Aleena

This guided exercise is an art therapy technique called the scribble projective. The listener will scribble on a blank piece of paper and then be guided through an interpretive process that can open a door to the listener's unconscious. This can reveal messages and insights regarding what may be really driving, motivating, or affecting the person underneath the surface. You could think of this exercise as a way to pop the hood of the car of your being, allowing you to look into the engine to find out where the core issue is. Be aware that emotionally charged content may arise in an expected and potentially potent way.

Preparation:

Find a space where you feel safe and comfortable, where you won’t have any disturbances for maybe half an hour or so. You may want to make sure that your notifications are silenced or that your phone is on “do not disturb.” Grab a blank piece of paper and something to write with, and find yourself in a comfortable seat somewhere cozy, if you can, with something hard to write on.

I was first guided in this process by art therapist and jungian analyst Mark Dean on a podcast called This Jungian Life. For more information about this exercise, listen to the episode here:

I had a profound experience that truly surprised me and deeply moved me. Nowhere in my conscious awareness was it apparent that I was being affected by this event from my past that came up in the scribble. Leave me a comment below if you’d be interested in hearing more about my story with this exercise. Or, if you feel like sharing your own experience and reflections with this I’d love to hear about it in the comments as well. Let me know how you’re feeling and anything else you feel like sharing.
