Twin Engine Procedures for RC Pilots

In this video I will cover all procedures RC pilots need to know for twin engine flight. In short, twin engine procedures for RC pilots.

The unique characteristics of twin engine aircraft require specialized knowledge and training. Pilots need to know, and know why, there is an 80 to 90 percent reduction in climb capability once an engine fails.

There is also the very important issue of minimum controllable airspeed with an engine out. The working engine will yaw the airplane into the working engine and rudder must be used to counter the yaw. The key takeaway is to know there is a Vmc and always fly at an airspeed above the Vmc.

I will go over the critical engine and how that affects twin engine flight. A discussion of counterrotating propellers follows. I will also discuss the importance of a feathered propeller in an engine out situation.

The final section covers pilot procedures. This includes what the RC twin engine pilot does for takeoff, initial climb out, turns out of traffic, cruise and on final if an engine should fail.
