In this video I discuss all the things that I've learned about types of breast forms and post mastectomy prosthetics. I've recently found out that I wasn't being offered the full array of choices when it came to prosthesis options. I imagine this is a common experience so I want to share what I've learned. Just another breast cancer survivor and advocate, heredon't take my words as medical advice please!

For the athletic prosthetics: The "beanbag" one that I ordered (shown in black in the video) is a brand called "Trulife" and the clear silicone one with the grooves/channels is a brand called "Anita".

Note that without insurance a custom breast form is upwards of $4500. Everyone has different insurance coverage, so it's worth asking about yours. Note also that it IS possible to get Medicaid to pay for these with a prior authorization. You'll just have to try to see if they will in your case. When you think about the money it costs them to put in an INTERNAL breast form (implant) it seems clear that this external "durable medical equipment" should be covered too. Let's make some noise until they are!
