The Lockheed U2S "Spy Plane"! Dating to the early 1950's and still in active service with the USAF in 2017. We see two example's departing RAF Fairford in true dramatic style.. These things climb like rockets. I zoomed right in on the preflight checks by the chase cars, please watch carefully as the wingtip wheels trop of on rotate! The chase car is used to guide the pilot. The U2 is hard to fly and the pilot wears a "Space Suit" limiting his field of view. The chase car assists the U2s pilot untill he is airbourne essentially another pair of eyes. On landing the plane lads normally untill it slows, where special skids are in place on the wing tips to protect them. The ground crew then insert the taxi wheels that detach on take off back into their slots and the U2 is stable to taxi around once more. The chase car is used on landing, talking the pilot down trough the final 50ft or so of final to touch down.
