My interest in the Uintah Railway was stirred when a photo of a 5 year old girl in Atchee was found in mom's shoe box. She recalled some of her days there when her mom would send her on the train to Atchee. Her older sister was married and stayed in Atchee. Tiny was mom's nickname back then, and the engineers took her under their protection on the ride up the rail. Mom talked about the fire that came out of the doors when they shoveled in the coal, said it scared her but eventually over time and many trips up and back, was to be expected. She liked sitting in the big chair, as she called it, watching out the window ahead, the ground was a long way down too, that frightened her for a while.. Her sister was married to Ramsey, he worked in the machine shop at Atchee. 4/21/2023 note: I just watched this black & white DVD of the Uintah Railway days. "Uintah Railway Machines of Iron" Train DVD Video with help from the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, and the Lucian Sprague family.
