Alegrete

Alegrete é uma freguesia portuguesa do município de Portalegre.
Foi vila e sede de concelho até 1855. Em 1849 tinha 2 442 habitantes.
Inserida em pleno Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede, a 500 metros de altitude.
Uma das mais importantes fortificações do Alto Alentejo raiano.
Embora a primitiva ocupação humana deste sítio seja obscura
Mas acreditase que remonte à época dos Lusitanos. Sucedidos pelos Romanos, pelos Vândalos, depois pelos Alanos até à Invasão muçulmana da Península Ibérica, a partir do século VIII.
Conquistado por D. Afonso Henriques, segundo a tradição, em 1160.
Castelo com arquitetura militar gótica, apresenta planta rectangular, irregular. Uma torre de menagem, de planta rectangular com dois pavimentos, com uma cisterna.
Igreja Matriz de Alegrete...Igreja Matriz de São João Batista de Alegrete, edificada no século XVII, estilo Maneirista.
Também há vestígios de povoamento da zona que remontam ao paleolítico.



Alegrete

Alegrete is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Portalegre.
It was a town and county seat until 1855. In 1849 it had 2,442 inhabitants.
Located in the middle of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, 500 meters above sea level.
One of the most important fortifications in Alto Alentejo.
Although the early human occupation of this site is obscure,
But it is believed to date back to the time of the Lusitanians. Succeeded by the Romans, the Vandals, then the Alans until the Muslim Invasion of the Iberian Peninsula, from the 8th century onwards.

Castle with Gothic military architecture, has a rectangular, irregular plan. A keep, rectangular in plan with two floors, with a cistern.

There are also traces of settlement in the area dating back to the Paleolithic era.
