This unique, star shaped 7 cylinder radial engine is a real dream for every engine collector, RC hobbyist, for any modeler. It was so interesting tp work with this engine, to discover some specialties in its behavior, or consequentially adjust engine for exact, flawless operation. I was spent dozens of hours to mount it, to learn it, to brake it in correctly. As 7 cylinder glow engine, it needs a lot of electric power to heat all 7 glow plugs and for long time adjustments it will need constant glow plug support. I decide to split all 7 glow plugs into two groups, with 3 and 4 glow plugs accordingly.
Each part of glow group was powered independently, by 2D size and 3D size NiCd accu cells accordingly. Each NiCd cell has 10K mAh capacity, so total capacity of the glow plug power was 50K mAh.
Engine takes approx. 3 hours to be braked in correctly, but I have some feeling, that it is still not enough, due to the fact, that with each minute, collected by engine during it's operation, it behaves better and better, I'm talking about lowering stable idle RPM level and increasing the TOP speed also by few % after each additional hours of operation.
Also, it was interesting tp discover some engine necessities, like draining lower cylinders after a couple of hours after engine operation, so if you provide engines test today, and tomorrow you're planning to install it on the plane, so, it will be necessary to drain low cylinders from fuel and oil residue by removing glow plugs.
After enough brake in time, engine could handle a very low and stable idle w/o any glow plug support, and this is greatly recommends engine by itself, as a very nice developed and constructed engine, but nevertheless, it would be absolutely necessary to install powerful on board glow drivers to ensure model's safety.
