A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is disrupted, leading to two main types: ischemic and hemorrhagic.
Ischemic stroke, the most common, happens when an artery in the brain gets blocked, cutting off blood supply. Hemorrhagic stroke, accounting for about 1 in 5 cases, is caused by a burst blood vessel in the brain.
Both types prevent oxygen and nutrients from reaching brain tissue, causing damage. Prompt brain scans are crucial for identifying the stroke type to administer appropriate treatment.
Watch this to understand what happens in the brain during a stroke, the different types and the importance of an accurate diagnosis.
