Universal Precautions (How to Reduce Your Risk)

Universal precautions for the general workplace would be used if an employee needed to clean up blood or other potentially infectious material. Personal protection is the most important factor. The individual tasked with cleanup should wear gloves, making sure to check for rips or holes before putting them on. A bleach solution of 1 part bleach and 9 parts water should be used to clean any affected tool or area. Apply the solution to the affected area using a rag or spray bottle, let sit for a bit and then wipe down. When finished wiping it down, throw the rag away.  Spray the affected area once again with the bleach solution and let it air dry. Once finished, remove gloves using glovetoglove and then skintoskin contact wrapping the gloves into themselves to keep any contaminants contained. Do not flick or pop gloves. Then throw the gloves away. While not legally required, using a biohazard waste bag is a good idea. When you are finished, wash your hands thoroughly.
