Work is on schedule restoring water service to the feeder main, which crews finished filling with water last night and flushing being completed this afternoon.

Acoustic and pressure monitoring have shown no areas of concern so far.

Water samples will be tested and analyzed by Alberta Health Services to ensure the water meets or exceeds health standards. If samples do not meet health standards, we will repeat the flushing process and test the water quality again.

The stage of stabilization will create pressure changes that could cause some issues throughout our water network. We are proceeding with caution and care. The City has developed contingency plans should we encounter additional issues, and we are prepared to respond rapidly.

Calgarians supported our call to action to conserve water after consumption recently increased. Yesterday, there was a significant reduction in usage, marking a positive step in the right direction. We reached below the threshold of 460 million litres per day but still not at our target. Keep reducing your indoor water usage at all times.


WATER USE

Friday’s water use for the Calgary area was 460 million litres, a 23 per cent reduction in water use. It is imperative that we remain under our threshold so demand does not outstrip supply.

Calgarians are taking advantage of our temporary nonpotable water pickup sites. Since Monday, 1,878 people visited and we distributed 2,233 litres of water. This water is not suitable for drinking, it is intended for your gardens and can be picked up free of charge at seven locations. Hours of operation for residential pick up are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to better serve Calgarians. Commercial hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

BYLAW AND ENFORCEMENT

To date we have received more than 10,310 calls to 311 about this emergency. We encourage Calgarians to use the 311 app or Calgary.ca to make your service requests.

We continue following up on calls to 311 for water misuse. Since the event began, we have received 2,931 calls, the majority of those have been resolved. We have issued 18 violation tickets.

A fire ban remains in effect for the City of Calgary. We’ve received a total of 245 fire pit calls. There have been 35 written warnings, 109 verbal warnings and we have issued six violation tickets.

As we head into Canada Day, please remember we remain under a fire ban. Do not fire or ignite your own fireworks or pyrotechnics. Fireworks are only allowed by permit and on a casebycase basis. Bylaw offenders are subject to fines or prosecution.

ROADS AND MOBILITY

As a reminder, some sections of the Bow River Pathway have detours, and the parking lot at Point McKay north of Edworthy Park and the river near Bowness Road is closed to the public.

16 Avenue N.W. from the Bowness Road exit to 43 Street N.W. has bumps on the roadway and uneven road surface. Please be cautious.
