U.S. Navy USS Essex Deploy to the West Philippines Sea with 1200 Sailors and 2200 Marines

The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) departs San Diego for a deployment in support of the Navy's maritime strategy in Philippines sea.

Essex is the command ship for Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 3 and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (11th MEU) from the Essex Amphibious Ready Group.

U.S. and the Philippines will conduct maritime operations training to boost their joint ability to enhance mutual defense capabilities and further the maritime security capabilities of the U.S. and the Philippines.

The Essex is a Waspclass assault vessel commissioned in October 1992, with a crew compliment of 1,200 sailors and 2,200 Marines. Essex's aerial capabilities include F35's, Harriers, Ospreys, heavylift helicopters, and can handle LCAC's for troop movements.
