In this topic, we will cover the management of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI).
This playlist shows how we train patients to perform transfers. By transfer we mean the ability to move between 2 different surfaces, for example from the wheelchair to the bed and vice versa. This is an important skill for patients who will use the wheelchair as their primary means of mobility. They will need to do transfers several times a day to get on/off the bed, toilet seat, car, sofa, etc. It is very important to gradually progress this training from easy to more advanced transfers.
In this video, we will demonstrate how to use a transfer board to facilitate transfer. The board can be used during the early stages of training and then discarded when the patient develops sufficient skill and strength, or it can be always used as an aid for patients with upper limb weakness.
