Using Gold Leaf As A Background In A Portrait Painting// Must See Technique!

Hey everyone!!! I decided to introduce a new technique into my process this week... Gold Leaf! I wanted to have that metallic shine and although I have used gold leaf before, it was only as an accent. But this... Wow! The result of a golden background on this piece gave it so much dimension! The painting changes with the light and I couldn't be happier!

I used a guilding adhesive which I painted on following the hard lines of my sketch. You really can't rush this process. The adhesive has to dry for the length of time stated in the directions. The prodeuct I used had a drying time of 45 minutes to 1 hour before applying the gold leaf or metal leaf. I waited the full hour. The adhesive will feel like the sticky side of scotch tape when it's ready for the application of gold, silver or metal leaf of your choosing.

Never skip sealing the metal leaf! It's so important to prevent tarnishing!

I love using acrylic pours as the base for more intricate paintings. It's become one of my favorite techniques! I might start using metal leaf in more of these paintings.

I hope you all enjoyed this video!
