Usk Castle, located in Monmouthshire, Wales, is a historically significant fortress with origins dating back to the Norman invasion of Wales. The initial construction of the castle began around 1120 under the direction of Richard de Clare, a prominent Norman lord.

The castle was strategically built on a hill overlooking the River Usk, which provided both a defensive advantage and control over a vital communication and transportation route in the region.

The castle's architecture evolved over the centuries, with significant expansions and modifications reflecting the changing needs and fortunes of its occupants. Key features include the original Norman motteandbailey design, later enhanced with stone fortifications, including a great hall, a gatehouse, and multiple towers.
