Venezuela's Strange Coffee Names: Guayoyo Marron Oscuro u0026 More

How to order coffee in Venezuela? What's a guayoyo and when should you drink it? Here's how to ask for your preferred brew!
Venezuela is a coffee producing country. You can find it for sale on every street corner. But finding a good cup can be a challenge. Here's a few words you need to know.
Cafecito or Negrito: This is a normal coffee sold on the streets, mostly by women with hot flasks. It's cheap and hot, but almost always premixed with lots of sugar, and almost never served with milk.
Marron Oscuro: A small strong coffee with little bit of hot milk. It's similar to a single shot flat white. You can order this at a panaderia with an espresso machine. For slightly more milk, ask for a Marron Claro.
Tetero: A small shot of coffee with lots of milk. This might be the closest to a cafe latte.
Guayoyo: Venezuela's most interestingly named coffee is not as exciting as it sounds. It's roughly the equivalent of a long black or Americano a large weak black coffee. It's sometimes called grandma's coffee, or afternoon coffee.
Coffee quality is constantly improving, especially in Caracas where there are several very good cafes with trained baristas, where you can order all the standard international coffee types. You can even find a proper Australianstyle flat white if you're lucky.
