Venlo Railway Station: International Rail Traffic and a Level Crossing

Follow
BeuteZug

The train station in Venlo is located in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is a border station that connects the Netherlands with Germany.

In passenger traffic, the RE 13 (Eurobahn) connects Venlo with Viersen, Mönchengladbach, Neuss, Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, Hagen, Schwert, Unna and Hamm.

On the Dutch side, there is the Stoptrein RS 11, which commutes between Roermond and Nijmegen (at the time of filming, however, only Roermond–Venlo, as rail replacement services had been set up towards Nijmegen).

There is also the Intercity, which runs from Schiphol Airport via Utrecht, ’sHertogenbosch, Eindhoven and Helmond to Venlo.

Crossborder longdistance traffic practically no longer takes place. However, there is freight traffic, which means that multisystem capable locomotives are usually found here. The station is a system separation point between the German and Dutch railway power systems.

Highlights:

Stadler GTW with 2 and 3 cars
Stadler Euro 9000
VIRMIV und VIRMVI as Intercity
several locomotives of German class 189

Recorded on June 6, 2024.
