"As a result of a great cataclysm ages ago, human life had take an subterranean detour along the path of evolution to evolve as Rock People in an underwater grotto. In modern times, an English submarine captain survives the wreck of his ship to find himself among these fossil men. He physically becomes one of them and awakens in them a desire to return and conquer the Earth, using the Seaview as their safe passage to the upper world."
