Removal of the wiper motor assembly from a late Bay Window VW Bus (Left hand drive). I could not find a video anywhere showing how to do this so I have made my own in case this helps anyone. I can see why, it is very hard to film while doing the job.

The fault was that the drive gear inside the motor assembly had become unbonded from shaft it was attached to, so the wipers moved freely together but were in effect disconnected from the motor. This is a common fault.

Towards the end of the video I state that I intend to replace the motor and spindle assembly with a new one. This turns out to be incorrect as they are actually very difficult to find!

I have found a second hand one from an earlier Bay. Other options include having a brass insert made by someone in Ontario:

Another way is to cut a slot into the top of the shaft with a hacksaw and araldite/chemicalmetal a piece of hacksaw blade into it, projecting a few mm out each side into matching slots cut into the nylon gear. There is a description of this on the web somewhere but I cannot find it right now.
