About Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof:
Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof—also known as Frankfurt Central Station—is the busiest train station in Hesse, Germany. Positioned near the heart of the country, it's a crucial transport hub for both long and shortdistance travel. Deutsche Bahn even calls it the most important station in Germany.

Historical Significance:
Opened on August 18, 1888
Serves approximately 493,000 passengers daily
Original structure from 1888, with additional halls added in 1924

Frankfurt Hbf is an impressive terminus situated in the busy city center. It's a beautiful historical building that also serves as a modern transport hub. You might find yourself changing trains here when traveling between cities like Amsterdam and Switzerland, Brussels and Vienna, or Copenhagen and Munich.

LongDistance and Regional Connections:
Serves 13 of the 24 ICE lines and 2 of the 3 ICE Sprinter lines
Other ICE lines also call at Frankfurt Airport Station and Frankfurt (Main) Süd to ease congestion
Main hub in the RMV network, connecting cities like Koblenz, Limburg, Kassel, and many more

Crime and Safety Concerns Around Frankfurt Central Station
Despite its architectural marvel, Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof has a darker side. In 2019, the Federal Police recorded 4,787 crimes at the station, the highest among German train stations.

The station district has struggled with issues of homelessness, drug use, and related crimes. It's not uncommon to see people openly using drugs or engaging in illegal activities around the station. In fact, crime, particularly drug offenses, reached a 10year high in 2023 in this area.
