Rotorua is a must visit spot in New Zealand, there's plenty of different mud pools and geysers to be seen at the various geothermal park setups around town. One of the more popular ones to visit is Wai O Tapu Thermal Wonderland — known for the famous Champagne Pools and Lady Knox geyser as well — so we knew we'd need to go check it out.

As you walk around Waiotapu you're basically surrounded by geothermal activity everywhere you look. There's a few different walks you can talk to explore, which is kind of nice to combine a little bit of activity with scoping out mud pools and geysers as well. Which ever walk you take, they all centre around one of the main attractions, the Champagne Pools, which changes colour on the daily and is crazy unique to see (if you can through the fog).

One thing to note, Lady Knox Geyser actually is a decent walk or a short drive away from the main carpark, so you need to drive up and park and leave enough time to already have your tickets to Wai O Tapu Thermal Wonderland BEFORE you head up to see Lady Knox. If you're Rotorua bound just keep that in mind, always allow enough time for tickets and getting to the right spot in time!
