Although the B29 Superfortress was the most advanced propellerdriven bomber of WW2, it also was a rush job to get into production as the war in the Pacific intensified. This opened it up to mistakes in lots of areas, but in particular, the CurtisWright R3350 engines, which caused the death of one of the world's top test pilots and his crew during prototype testing and many other crews during operations, an issue that wasn't fully resolved until after the war.
