US authorities have reduced the number of people missing, after a mudslide hit the Washington state town of Oso, to 90.

Calls to emergency services have been released and give a tragic insight into events immediately after the massive mudslide hit.

In one of the calls, a distressed woman says, "what happened? There's so many people yelling for help"

The emergency service operator then explains, "it looks like we had a mudslide in the area but we did have the fire department dispatched, ok?"

Another caller says his wife, "stepped out of her house because it felt like there was an earthquake happening".

Authorities are keeping the official toll at 16, until the eight other bodies are recovered.

Five people injured in the Oso landslide, which happened on Saturday, remain in a Seattle hospital.
