Watercolor Painting | A Colorful Betta Fish

Follow
SAGAK SAGAK

Today, I’ll be drawing a colorful Betta featuring its flamboyant fins.

The Betta I’ll be painting is blue and pink. They’re close to being complimentary colors so if we’re not careful, the painting may end up looking tacky and hectic. There are two ways to avoid this problem and bring the painting together.

First, we can be sure to use more of one color. For example, we can use blue for about 70%, while using pink for just 30% of the painting. The main color will help bring the painting together, and so it won’t end up looking tacky or hectic.

The second is the method I’ll be using today. I’ll use an achromatic color to set the overall tone. Then, I’ll layer vivid colors to the midtone areas. This will bring unity to the picture.

You can use these techniques when you draw anything colorful.
