Wayang comes from the word "Ma Hyang" which refers to a spiritual spirit, god, or God Almighty. There are also those who interpret wayang as a Javanese term that approaches "shadow", this is because the audience can also watch the puppet from behind the screen or just its shadow. Wayang kulit is played by a puppeteer who is also the narrator of the dialogue of wayang characters, accompanied by gamelan music, a group of nayaga groups and songs sung by the singer. The puppeteer plays the shadow puppets behind the screen, which is a screen made of white cloth, while behind it is an electric light or oil lamp (blencong) lit, so that the audience on the other side of the screen can see the wayang falling onto the screen. In order to understand the wayang story (play), the audience must have knowledge of the puppet characters whose shadows appear on the screen.
