We Did It! We Thru-hiked the Art Loeb Trail

We Did it! We through Hike the Art Loeb Trail. We decided late to go ahead and get a jump start on the trail Friday evening. Just going in 3 to 5 miles would cut down our mileage on the last day. However, We were both exhausted from the drive so we made it in just over 3 miles Friday.

Our original plan was to hike 15 Miles Saturday and 15 Miles on Sunday to finish. Now we've come 3 miles in and with a 15 mile day on Saturday would put us camping near the Blue Ridge Parkway or up on one of the balds. But, That didn't happen... We got about 12 or so miles in on Saturday and called it and setup camp early. It was a climb from the start this day. We camped Saturday night at the location that we would have camped had we started Saturday instead of Friday. Which was okay there was a water source, not a good one but water was there.

Sunday morning we knew it would be a long day. 15+ miles to finish and we knew that I had to be off trail that evening. So we woke up early and began our hike to the Blue Ridge Parkway and over to Black Mountain and Tennent Mountain where the views were amazing.

We decided before we reached the BRP that we would trim our pack weight by shedding some gear. we dropped our tents, sleeping mat, tarp any non essential gear. We hid it pretty well cause it was still there at the end of the day. Dropping this weight would allow us to be lighter and travel faster. It was such a beautiful and hot day. We stopped for photos and breaks as we needed them. We found some water along the trail at a few places so that wasn't an issue.

We finished the trail that evening and headed back to pick up our gear and drive back to Brevard to drop me off at my truck.

I stopped in near Asheville for a late evening solo dinner before driving back over to Knoxville.
