The Ilamatepec or Santa Ana Volcano, whose indigenous name comes from the Nahuat word Ilamatepet and means: 'the hill of the old woman', is a stratovolcano located in the department of Santa Ana that has an elevation of 2,381 m asl; making it the highest volcano in El Salvador.1​ Its last eruptions occurred in 1904, in 1920 and in 2005.2​According to the Volcanic Explosivity Index, this volcano is level 3 out of 8.
