The United Nations Human Rights Council recently declared access to a clean and healthy environment as a human right. Though not legally binding, it could have impacts in international (and other) courts.

The United States, who are only an observer on the council, was heavily critical in the leadup to the declaration’s passage, and several other countries (China, India, Russia, Japan) abstained.
Here’s a speculative take on some possible future scenarios. Do we want Woolly Mammoths and Flying Solar South Korea? Or the wasteland we’ll get if we keep up with business as usual.

Just because we’ve put so much effort into the system we have, doesn’t mean we can’t change it (that’s the Sunk Cost Fallacy, FYI.)
