Wednesday 6 PM Tropical Update: Hurricane Beryl continues to weaken

Chief meteorologist Chris Franklin says the storm's center is unfortunately coming right along the southern coast of Jamaica.

Jamaica is also a very mountainous terrain so with that terrain interaction and some wind shear on the western side.

It is continuing to weaken however it is right over the Island of Jamaica. That's where they're getting some of the strongest winds at 140 mph. It is moving away quickly at 20 mph.

The forward speed has not changed as it is running along the southern end of a big upper ridge. That will continue as it moves toward the Yucatan, weakening further, and likely will emerge into the Bay of Campeche or southwestern Gulf as a tropical storm.

The only difference from the new forecast from the National Hurricane Center is that the Hurricane Center does think Beryl could go back to a Category 1 right before it moves inland somewhere in northeastern Mexico or south Texas.

A lot of wind and rain will be the main issues there, but at least it will be a weakening storm.

Beyond Beryl, we are still watching Invest 96L. The models kind of split on exactly what the future of this may be. Hurricane Center maintains a low chance of development. It looks like more of a rainmaker.

If Invest 96L were to be named, it would be the fourth making a landfall potentially in almost the same location as Hurricane Alberto. Beryl is on its way towards Mexico, Chris and possibly another storm, could all be making their way toward the east coast of Mexico.
