Well that didn't work: These are the ugliest buildings in Prague

Prague is rightfully one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But even here you can find places that are not exactly the pride of our capital. And it is these that we have focused on in this episode of the Live Prague series.

Which buildings have we chosen as the ugliest?

Hotel Don Giovanni in Žižkov
The hotel has earned the nickname "the dream of a mad pastry chef". It looks like a giant cake. However, the intention of its author, architect Ivo Nahálka, was to make the building resemble a theatre. Unfortunately, the result is more of a monument to the baroque business, which is eyesore in this localication.

Žižkov apartment buildings
At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, during the largescale redevelopment of the whole of Žižkov, entire blocks of original houses disappeared irrevocably. They were subsequently replaced by prefabricated buildings that do not fit the surroundings at all and completely lack the spirit of Žižkov.

A family house resembling a golf ball in Břevnov
A futuristic building, nicknamed the golf ball because of its shape, was created in the old residential area of Břevnov under the direction of the Blackback architectural studio. The authors allegedly wanted to take inspiration from Czech cubism, but the result does not really fit in with the local development.

The DPP central control room in Nové Město
This building towers over the surrounding buildings by three storeys and six houses had to be demolished to accommodate it. It is no wonder that it is visible from practically all over Prague. It is built in the style of brutalism and from today's point of view it is rather a reminder of the former regime.

Bořislavka Centrum
The office and business centre in Bořislavka, called crystals and coming from the pen of Aulík Fišer architects, does not deny its originality. But in a few years, the buildings will cease to be so shiny and maybe one day we will look at them in a similar way to the aforementioned DPP dispatching centre. After all, they already do not fit into the local development at all.

Which other Prague buildings would you include in our list of the ugliest buildings? And do you agree with our list? Let us know in the comments.

After all, it is not only the architectural feats in this video that are considered controversial. Many people still don't look very favourably on the Žižkov transmitter, for example, about which we made one of the previous videos:    • Žižkovská věž: Pět pikantností, který...  . The Dancing House also arouses many emotions even today:    • Tančící dům, který stojí díky Havlovi...

However, most people would say that the ugliest buildings are Prague's blocks of flats. But that doesn't mean that they don't hide many interesting facts and records! See for yourself:    • Panelákové rekordy: Který je nejdelší...
