In 1930, a young historian and philosopher set foot on Indian soil for the first time in his life. He was going to collect information for his massive 11volume work called 'The Story of Civilization'. He was so shocked and angry that he decided to write and tell everything to expose what he considered to be 'one of the greatest crimes in history'. That person was Will Durant, and he wrote in his work: "The British conquest of India means the unconscionable and unlawful occupation and destruction of a high civilization by a commercial company. This company, which is indifferent to art and always wants to win, has ruined the country." ." While India was one of the leading countries in production, science and art, especially from the 5th and 6th centuries, it was deliberately impoverished and presented as a backward country with the lie that it would be civilized by England. In English literature, all these events were depicted as a family portrait.
The queen, who was portrayed as a compassionate mother, was shown as embracing children in distant lands who needed discipline, taming them and helping them reach the level of civilization.
