Answering the question what Tesla insurance costs requires context because every individual is different. Indeed, one aspect of the Tesla insurance program is to provide a customized policy for each driver based on their driving patterns, etc.

On a recent earnings call, Elon Musk provided insight into the Tesla Insurance program. He said he wants Teslas to have the lowest "total cost of ownership" of any vehicle on the road.

There are three reasons for this:
1) Teslas have integrated some of the most advanced realtime safety technology available in a vehicle. In addition, Tesla is famously pursuing a fullself driving technology that will enable the vehicle to drive itself. When combined with the data around the cost of repairs for collisions, Tesla has an incentive to reduce damage to vehicles and price insurance accurately according to the risk of property damage claims.

2) Elon Musk has said publicly that his goal with the insurance program is to reduce the total cost of ownership of a Tesla over the life of the vehicle. Total cost of ownership includes items like price paid to buy the vehicle, then ongoing costs such as fuel, maintenance, insurance, repairs, financing, state fees, depreciation, etc. To compare total cost of ownership, you have to use similarly priced vehicles because purchase price is the biggest factor in TCO. Elon Musk’s goal is to reduce the total cost of ownership of a Tesla compared to other vehicles in its class.

3) Tesla bidirectional charging will change everything for Tesla owners. Instead of owning just an EV, Tesla bidirectional charging will enable Tesla owners to provide electricity to their homes in a blackout or whenever they want.

Recently Kelley Blue Book rated the Tesla Model 3 as having the lowest cost of ownership when compared to similarly priced internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in its class, such as the Volvo S90 and Audit TT.

There is no one answer about Tesla insurance cost because insurance is not a commodity and it varies from person to person… However, I believe will ultimately be the lowest cost source of insurance for some Tesla owners, and may be even other vehicle owners in the future.
