As the scientists looked further into the planet’s past, they understood more clearly all its variability and metamorphoses. On a scale of billions of years, land turns out to be very similar to water. The earth's crust rose above the waters of the world's oceans only to dive back down again, then "crawled" its way as separate pieces over the planet’s surface, only to be reunited in supercontinents.
According to various estimates, Earth has seen at least six different supercontinents over the course of its existence. And now we’ll travel into the ancient past, three and a half billion years ago, to get to know each of them.
