A contingency plan is a valuable part of your risk management. Whilst it won’t stop risks happening, nor even make them less likely, it will give you a clear set of steps to follow if one should manifest.


Here are 10 tactics you can put into a contingency plan?

1. Create a schedule contingency, or 'float'.
2. Look for nondependent later activities that could be rescheduled.
3. Identify noncritical activities that could be dropped.
4. Research offtheshelf solutions that could be bought in.
5. Create budget contingency.
6. Identify noncritical deliverables that you could descope; reducing functionality or quality criteria.
7. Build test and remediation time into your plans.
8. Secure expert evaluators.
9. Put in place effective change control procedures.
10. Identify options for extended working hours.
