An atom is the smallest unit of matter that has the properties of a chemical element. Basically they’re the building blocks of nature, everything we see on earth and in space is composed of atoms. In every atom you have three different types of subatomic particles. Protons and neutrons are in the nucleus, the hard, dense middle of the atom. Electrons are surrounding the nucleus and are exist in orbitals, which are different levels that surround the nucleus.
