Spec3 is the leading spec racing class for the BMW e36. Similar to Spec E30, Spec Miata, and Spec E46, it is a racing class for the average person designed to showcase driver skill in equal cars. Spec3 has an extra focus on low cost compared to car performance which leads to Spec3 cars "punching above their weight" and laying down seriously good lap times at a low price point. The rules are shaped in a way to discourage "pay to win" tactics and not allow massive advantages to be gained by spending more on your car. Spec3 is sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association which is one of the two leading amateur racing organizations in the USA alongside the SCCA. Spec3 itself is a fast growing class which has seen a massive increase in attention, participation, and new entries in the last 3 years.
