Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the recovery of the Russian economy after sanctions has been completed. His remarks were reported on the Kremlin's website during a meeting on the federal budget for 20242026.

"In general, it can be said that the stage of recovery of the Russian economy is complete," Putin stated.

He mentioned that Russia has endured an unprecedented "sanctions pressure" from unfriendly countries. The country's GDP has returned to its presanctions level of 2021, according to his words. Putin called for creating conditions for further stable and longterm growth.

Putin has previously asserted that Western calculations that the Russian economy would "collapse in two to three weeks or in a month" after the start of military actions in Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions did not materialize. He emphasized that the "fundamental foundations of Russia's stability are much stronger than anyone thought before." He referred to the "most important result" of the past year as the "multiple increase in the country's economic sovereignty."

In August, the President claimed that Russia had entered the top five largest economies in the world by the end of the previous year. Putin cited World Bank data, according to which Russia had surpassed Germany in the "most important indicator," the size of the economy.
